When Sam, and I were figuring out what we were going to do, I thought of volunteering at an organization called Five.12. I thought that it would be a good start. My mom had told me that sodas were on sale for the Super Bowl. So Sam, and I thought that this was a great opportunity to sell sodas to raise money for Five.12. We thought that the school would be a great place to sell the sodas at. So we went and bought the sodas.
I thought that poverty was a problem in the world, and I liked how people took a stand and tried to end it. I thought that maybe I could be like that, that maybe I could take a stand and do what I could to try to end it. While doing it I realized that poverty wasn’t just kids going hungry, that kids were starving. I realized that there were more people than I realized try to stop poverty.
I asked permission from the school principal if we could sell the sodas at lunch to raise money to donate. He said that we couldn’t sell the sodas during school hours, because it was a health code violation. So I didn’t know what to do, but when I heard that there was a valentines dance I thought that it might be good to sell the sodas there. People might be willing to buy sodas for them, and their friends. So I asked the Principal, and he said that we could as long as we did it near the end of the dance.
This project helped raise money to donate to help solve some child hunger. I feel that the money we raised helped make a child be a little less hungry during the weekend. I feel like that makes a difference in our community, even if it isn’t a very big one. Even though it might not be a very big difference to others, It can make a difference to a few kids who weren’t as hungry during the weekend. It also made a difference to me, and how I take some things for granted. It helped me see what I can do to help, and how I can help someone instead of helping myself. The world can become a better place if we just do something, even if it isn’t that big, that can make someone smile, and have a good day.
